The Producers

Theatre Royal, Drury Lane

Starring

Nathan Lane and Lee Evans

Verdict for The Producers

Music, Lyrics :) :) :) :)

Mel Brooks

Book

Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan

As the lyric goes '' Where did they go right ? '' Mr Brooks is a genius. When was the last time that you went to a new show on the West End and came out of the theatre able to hum most of the songs? To me that is what a musical is supposed to be about - great and memorable music. Musical Director is Paul Christ.

Production :) :) :)

Not a single penny was held back to make "The Producers" what it is - a Class A show.

Acting :) :) :) :)

As for Mr. Lane, the moment he comes out on stage you feel the mega star quality. I have to thank Mr. Dreyfuss because if he hadn't pulled out of the show, we may have never had have the chance to witness such a legendary performance. The down side of course is who can replace Mr. Lane afterwards?

I was determined not to like Lee Evans' performance, with the overly exaggerated facial expressions, but funnily enough it worked on stage. Of course, we don't doubt Lee's comical timing.

Singing :) :) :)

As for the singing, it is fantastic from Nicolas Colicos, James Drefus, Conleth Hill , Leigh Zimmerman and the rest of the cast, I was even surprised by Lee Evans. Mr. Lane sang the most difficult song of the night - 'Betrayed' and he did it with ease.

Dancing :) :) :)

Choreography - Susan Stroman

Leigh Zimmerman is perfect for the part and her dancing is just so elegant. The whole cast dances so well, but who can go wrong with Ms. Stroman's directions.

Scenery :) :) :)

Robin Wagner.

Wonderful scenery by Robin Wagner with many clever little props like the pigeons and cushions.

Costume :) :) :)

William Ivey Long

So many beautiful costumes and I am not just talking about the leading lady's.

Wig and hair design :) :) :)

Paul Huntely

Sound :) :) :)

Steve C Kennedy.

Lighting :) :) :)
