Tony Curtis - Hollywood Legend
Some like it hot and the musical Sugar.
Sugar is a 1972 Broadway musical based on the screenplay for the film Some Like it Hot, which was written by Billy Wilder and I.A.L. Diamond and based on a story by Robert Thoeren. The script was written by Peter Stone, the music was by Jule Styne, and the lyrics were by Bob Merrill. It starred Robert Morse and Tony Roberts as Jerry and Joe, the two out-of-work musicians who witness the St. Valentine's Day Massacre and disguise themselves as women in an all-female band to avoid being killed by pursuing gangsters, and Elaine Joyce as the title character, a member of the band who Joe falls in love with. Also in the show were Cyril Ritchard as Osgood Fielding, Jr., a wealthy older man who becomes attracted to Jerry in drag
A US national tour during 2002-03 starred Tony Curtis as Osgood Fielding in a revised production

When I was a kid, the first musical I ever saw was The Wizard of Oz. I can still remember being fascinated by what I was seeing on the screen and immediately fell in love with the magic and wonder of musicals. Ever since, watching Hollywood musicals have given me the greatest pleasure. A few years ago, I began collecting photos of musicals as well as the autographs of their many actors and singers. I quickly began to realize what historical treasures were before me and have since then been drawing from them. When I shared my collection with these Hollywood legends, most of them were kind enough to autograph my work. True joy, they say, comes from sharing. Creating these illustrations, then watching them being transform into greeting cards enable me to do share my joy with you. In so doing, I hope that it might revive an interest in an era that is very unique, exciting and filled with wonder. If not, then at least let these illustrations bring some enjoyment to you as they have done for me, even if only for a fleeting moment in the grand scale of time.
Special thanks to Dress Circle for encouraging me to design my illustrations.
sincerely,
Roy Tan
